Mahendra and Sulekha unmarried daughter "Pankhuri" will be the second protagonist of the story.
Kind-hearted, smart and a morally upright girl Pankhuri is the person on whom Mahendra and Sulekha depend on the most. Pankhuri is also in an inter caste relationship with a man from the so-called lower castes. She has hidden this relationship from the rest of the family and especially from Chandra for fear that she will meet the same fate as Mohan if the truth about this relationship were to become known.
