About me

A Mumbai based screenwriter, novelist and literary critic, Abdullah’s articles, short stories and reviews have appeared in a number of South Asian, British and American journals including The Hindu, Wasafiri, Daily Star, Friday Times, Brooklyn Rail, etc. He has also written the screenplay and dialogue for ‘Viraam’ which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, 2017, and was subsequently released all over the country. His debut novel ‘Patna Blues’ will be published in India and abroad at the end of 2018. At present, he is developing a fiction show for India’s biggest Entertainment Channel.

• Working on the script of a feature-length film about the women empowerment titled ‘Tara’ for an Indie producer.
• Working on the development of a prime-time TV series for Star TV (India.). Story and pilot already delivered.
• Have written scripts and lyrics for a full-length feature film titled Viraam (The Termination), screened at Cannes Film Festival, 2017. Theatrical release in India was on 1st December 2017.
• Finished writing a romantic comedy titled ‘Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein’ starring Arabaz Khan & Govind Namdev for Ahilya Productions.(Now shelved)
• An Indian adaptation of Romeo & Juliet was under consideration with V-Channel (submitted through Beyond Dreams Pvt Ltd.) .(Now shelved)
•The debut book Patna Blues, a literary novel, is being published in India by Chiki Sarkar’s Juggernaut Books. The same publisher will publish its Hindi translation.
•Contributor to an anthology of essays about India titled India Now & in Transition (Edited by Atul K Thakur) alongside big names like Shahi Tharoor, Ram Chandra Guha, Sunil Khilnani, etc. (Published by Niyogi Books, India)
